Hello and welcome to Denver Running Coach! My name is Brian Hand and I have a PhD in exercise physiology from the University of Maryland. For the past 11 years I have been helping people with exercises programs in various setting. I have also been a runner and cyclist almost all of my life. So I started Denver Running Coach to bring together two of my passions in life, helping people and running.Â
Also, welcome to my first blog! The purpose of this blog will be to provide runners with useful information. I will also provide free information in my newsletters which will be coming soon. You can sign up for this on my web page.
Comments are welcome as long as they are constructive and clean.
For my first blog I want to touch on why running is important to you. We all have our reasons for running and goals we would like to reach, whether it’s to lose a certain number of pounds, have more energy, finish our first marathon, qualify for the Boston marathon, set a PR (personal record), etc. So what I would recommend you do is to write down your goal for running. Then put this somewhere so that you can see it everyday. My goal is 3:15 in this year’s Boston Marathon. I have this on my refrigerator so I see it several times everyday. This helps keep me focused with my running and cross-training (biking, weight lifting, core strengthening, pilates, yoga, etc.), which are also beneficial to my running.
In addition to writing and posting your goal, I highly recommend that you visualize and/or write down what it will look like, feel like, etc. when you achieve this goal. This will also help keep you on track with your training.
Next, I recommend coming up with a plan to get to your goal. That will be covered in the next blog.
Until then… see you on the road or trail.
